Hard Water Stain
Removal Process
Standard window cleaning isn’t always enough to tackle the “etching” caused by sprinklers, sea spray, or architectural runoff. Our Hard Water Stain Removal service utilizes professional-grade, eco-friendly polishing agents to break down calcium, magnesium, and silica deposits. We restore the clarity and brilliance of your glass, saving you the massive expense of total window replacement.
Step 1: Prepare
We first clean the window using standard methods to remove dirt and grime. This allows us to see the true extent of the mineral etching and ensure no abrasive debris is trapped under our polishing pads.
Step 2: Dissolve
We apply a specialized, professional-strength cleaning compound. These solutions are designed to chemically break the bond between the minerals and the glass surface, loosening the “scale” that traditional soap can’t touch.
Step 3: Polish
Using non-abrasive pads and steady pressure, we gently polish the glass. This step buffs away the loosened minerals, smoothing out the surface of the pane and restoring its original transparency.
Step 4: Wash
Finally, we thoroughly rinse the window to neutralize any remaining acids or cleaners. We finish with a clear-water rinse and a squeegee dry, leaving behind a streak-free, crystal-clear finish.

Removal Steps
Over time, your windows collect more than just dust. Pollen, dirt, hard water minerals, and other contaminants can leave glass looking cloudy and dull, reducing natural light and affecting the overall appearance of your home. Without proper cleaning, this buildup can become harder to remove and lead to permanent spotting.

Hard Water Stain
Removal FAQs
These are the questions we most often hear from our clients about our hard water stain removal service.
If your windows have hard water stains, we recommend that you have them professionally cleaned at least four times a year. This ensures that the mineral deposits will be removed from your windows before they can etch into the glass and create permanent damage.
Most “hard water” spots come from minerals like calcium and magnesium found in tap water or groundwater. When a sprinkler hits your window and the water evaporates, it leaves those minerals behind. Over time, these minerals can actually “etch” into the pores of the glass.
We can successfully remove or significantly improve about 90–95% of stains. However, if the minerals have been baked into the glass by the sun for many years, the glass may be permanently “pitted.” We will always assess your windows first to give you a realistic expectation of the results.
No. We use professional-grade polishing compounds and pads specifically designed for glass restoration. Our process is much safer than DIY methods like using steel wool or harsh household chemicals, which can cause permanent swirling or haze.
The best defense is prevention! We recommend adjusting your sprinkler heads so they don’t spray directly onto the glass. Regular professional window cleaning also prevents minerals from sitting long enough to bond to the surface.
